The Old Joinery on Philiphaugh Estate is home to Selkirk’s first gin distillery. Operating since March 2019, Selkirk Distillery has benefited immensely from the great potential of its surroundings. Botanicals found either growing naturally on the estate grounds, or cultivated by the experienced gardeners in the walled gardens, have been successfully used within their popular products.
Gorse flowers are frequently foraged by the distillers, as one of the main botanicals in their two core products, Selkirk and Bannock Gin. Fruits and herbs from the walled gardens have given rise to popular seasonal liqueurs such as Raspberry & White Chocolate, Plum & Bramble, White Currant & Mint, and Sloe Berry & Spiced Apple. The bounty of natural ingredients surrounding the distillery continually inspires the distillers to experiment and produce new craft spirits.
The distillery itself is an old stone building which houses a small 100 litre copper pot still. Small batches of craft gin are produced periodically, with Selkirk Gin being the core London Dry Gin as well as the base for Bannock Gin and all seasonal liqueurs.
As a small family run business, the distillers are not always on site but they are always ready to welcome visitors. To guarantee somebody is available for a small visit you can contact them either via email or facebook messenger.
